MISSING PERSONS MONUMENT

The heroes’ monument in Mari is located in the southeast part of the community, at the heart of the green park, and it is dedicated to Andreas Alexandrou who has been missing since 1974.

The monument was funded by the community council in 2001. It was created by sculptor Costas Kougiountas from Kophinou. It consists of a marble plate framed by a blossomed garden paved with slabs.

Andreas Alexandrou was born in 1955, in the occupied village of Stylli in the district of Famagusta and was a child of a multimember family. He went to the Financial School of Famagusta and graduated with first honors.

It was as soon as he graduated from Officers’ School and had returned from Crete, when the war broke out in 1974.

Right after that, he serviced as a lieutenant at the 399 I.B in Trikomo.

During the war, he serviced as commandant at Aspri Moutti in Keryneia. He has been missing since then.
